Joorrmin is the name of the river and the hills at this place, low down from Yarrunga (Chinaman's Garden). Yarrunga is Gordon's country. It lies on Alice Downs Station, where Gordon was born and worked for many years on the station. This was country that Gordon used to muster cattle through and used to camp here during holidays from the station.

Gordon Barney is a senior painter represented by Warmun Arts Center. He was born near Birrno, which is his country. It lies near the main homestead of Alice Downs cattle ranch, where the artist worked as a drover (cowboy) as a young man. Gordon is married to another senior artist, Shirley Purdie, who in 1998 first encouraged him to paint. Gordon Barney is an important painter, a senior lawman and a respected dancer at community ceremonies.
