About Hanson Pye
Hansen Pye is one of a number of especially exciting young artists who are beginning to show powerful and interesting work at the Warlayirti Arts Center in Balgo Hills, Western Australia. This extremely remote community off the Tanami Trail and near the Great Sandy Desert is the home of numerous world-famous artists whose distincitve styles are easily discernible by their vivid color palettes and themes.
Hansen is the son of Frank Clancy and grandson of the Boxer Milner, one of the grand elders of Walayirti painting. Hanson's unique style is all his own. He paints country around Balgo and his paintings show extraordinary promise.
About Purkitji
In this powerful painting, Hanson has painted country around Purkitji (Stuart Creek) north of Balgo. The central vertical line is Purkitji and the white section of the painting is "milk water" which is generated during the Wet season after heavy rains. The dark section is Lake Gregory into which Purkitji flows.
