About Mignonette Jamin
Mignonette Jamin's painting are collected worldwide. She paints out of the Waringarri Arts Center in Kununurra, WA where she is a highly respected law woman and healer. Her expansive palette of colors is derived exclusively from traditional ochre pigments that result in vibrant and beautiful paintings.
About Madjalindy
Mignonette was born at Muthanoongamaya - Majalindy Valley on Majalindy Creek a tributary of the Fitzmaurice River near Palumpa in the Northern Territory. She is a respected law woman and as a child, and young woman, walked all over her country, from the Bullo River to Kununurra.
Mignonette lived at Legune Cattle Station and went to school at Port Keats. She came to Kununurra when she was about 10 years old.
Mignonette paints her traditional country - the rivers and billabongs, coastal areas, the hills, rocky ridges, roads and other land marks as well as sites significant to women's business which belongs to her dreaming for country at Muthanoongamaya - Majalindy Valley and empowers her as a healer.
As welll as painting her traditional country at Madjalindy she also paints country around Kununurra and Wyndham associated with her husband's country - Carlton Hill Station area. Mignonette's paintings have attracted serious attention with their powerfully balanced compositions and an expansive palette, despite working strictly with ochre pigments. Her paintings show a remarkable individually, free expressiveness, and great vibrancy . Intimate stories and memories link these images to her extensive knowledge of country and culture.
